We have always heard about unusual spa treatments that leave us unsure about their effectiveness. A lot of people enjoy unusual, natural ways of massage therapy. In fact, Thailand has been one of the leading countries when it comes to Spa Therapies. However, Snail Massage comes on a whole new level.
What is Snail Massage?
Before answering the question, let us not forget to mention that this idea first appeared in Chiang Mai, Northern Thailand. This location is surrounded by forests and jungles. It is not a surprise that they were able to come up with this idea. In general, the snails are applied to the face and left to roam on it.
As a result, a trail of mucus (coming from the snails’ body) is left on the face. This treatment is known to give a glow to the skin as well as encouraging its rejuvenation. In addition, experts claim that the snail essence removes dead skin cells and toxins that lay under the skin’s dermal layers.
When the snails get stressed, they release a fluid called helix aspera muller glycoconjugates. In the spa, they leave the fluid on your face for a determined time and then massage it so it can enter as good as possible into the layer on the surface of your skin. In addition, this treatment in known to cost a lot of money. For instance, in Japan 5 minutes of snail massage cost about 160$.
However, no evidence (except for claims) has shown that those treatments are beneficial. Some people say that the fact that the fluid that the snails release can help reduce puffiness is because it is cold. This effect is the same as putting a cucumber on your face for it to reduce under eye puffiness.
