Ever since people started developing and finding unusual ways to make their businesses more successful, SPAs and resorts have developed new treatments and therapies to try and cure their patients’ cases. However, some of them, did not believe in modern ways of treatment, and chose to maintain their ancestors’ ways of healing and dealing with patients. For example, ancient Egyptians kept believing in the healing powers of long soaks in seawater.
Sea; Life Origin
Have you ever wondered why we always seek relaxation on a beach? most people, find it stress relieving going to the beach, just sitting on the shore, looking at the sunset, and smelling the ocean’s breeze.
In fact, this relieving feeling, has a deeper meaning. Scientifically, plant life first started in the deepest part of the sea. Since Planet Earth was first created, the only source of nourishment existed in the sea, because the sea itself, was covering all the planet. Moreover, in a recent scientific research, it was proven that seawater can restore balance to an organism. “The living organism is a sea aquarium in which a few billion cells are bathing,” said Quinton, a French physiologist.
The start of Thalassotherapy
The first Thalassotherapy center first opened in 1899, in the Brittany region of France. Not to forget, the term thalassotherapy means: to seawater healing in a medically supervised environment as a form of preventive or curative health care, utilizing seawater, seaweed, marine mud, sand and other marine substances. Moreover, in the last century, Thalassotherapy started gaining credibility and fame throughout Europe. In addition, there are today, more than 45 Thalassotherapy centers in France alone.
Thalassotherapy centers have a spa treatment included as well as medical therapy. In addition, a plumbing system plumbs seawater into the spa and connects all equipment in the center. Moreover, the spa has a heated seawater pool where patients immerge themselves based on schedules. Furthermore, when patients arrive, they meet with a doctor so he can decide what they will be treated for. Once the doctor finishes examination, the patient starts the therapy which can last from two days to two weeks.
