How it started
Mario Prada, is the person who started the Prada fashion line in 1913, when he manufactured some well-crafted, high-end suitcases, handbags and steamer trunks for the Milanese elite. Miuccia Prada is his youngest granddaughter. After Mario passed away, Miuccia was an unlikely inheritor of her family’s business. Moreover, she once was a member of the Italian Communist Party. She studied in the University of Milan. Over there, Miuccia made a name for herself and got her Ph.D. in political science. After that, in 1978, she got into her family’s business and was dedicated to make the company livelier. In fact, it was with the help of the person who became her husband, that Prada began updating the company’s merchandise with designs that Miuccia developed herself.
In 2010, in Rome, Prada got the trophy of McKim Medal Laureate, for their achievements in the world of fashion and business. After that, in 2012, an exhibition of Prada’s work was taking place at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art.
