Designer of the day: L’Wren Scott

If you are a fashion lover, then you have with no doubt, heard about a fashion designer called L’Wren Scott. In fact, her real name is Laura “Luann” Bambrough, but she chose L’Wren Scott as her professional name. This designer was adored and acknowledged worldwide by all the ladies who loved owning designer clothes and women who admired a well-tailored outfit.

Background

Scott was raised in Roy, Utah by Ivan and Lula Bambrough, her adoptive parents. Moreover, she was born on April 28, 1964. Luann was her nickname, she was known for having a tall posture and because of that, she had to sue her own outfits. As a result, Luann learned about fabric quality and style construction when she was only 12 years old. Furthermore, Luann graduated from Roy High School in 1982.

Due to Scott’s height, she started a career as a model in Paris. However, he ditched that, and moved in the 90s to California and started to try to establish herself as a stylist. In 2009, she styled important and famous stars such as Madonna, and following her is Julia Roberts in 2011 along with Tom Hanks. Moreover, Scott styled costumes for films such as  Diabolique (1996 remake), Eyes Wide Shut, Ocean’s Thirteen, in addition to Shine a Light, a documentary by Martin Scorsese about The Rolling Stones, with Mick Jagger.

In addition to clothing, L’Wren Scott designed everything that has to do with outfit accessories, such as: makeup, perfume, handbags, shoes, and eyeglasses.

“I like a very sexy silhouette, and I like to feel like when you put something on, you zip yourself into it, and you’re secure in there.” This was her motivation to design very comfortable, yet stylish clothes. In addition to that, due to her fans’ love, they developed “L’Wrenisms”; a set of styling tips. One of them was: Wearing a nude shoe to elongate the leg. Which is still used by women everyday.

Vittorio Missoni is an Italian business executive. Moreover, he is best known for being a CEO of the Missoni brand that was founded by his parents in the 1950s. However, in 2013, a plane that was carrying Vittorio Missoni with his wife and three others, disappeared off the coast of Venezuela.

Missoni was born in Lombardy, Italy, in 1954. In fact, his parents, Ottavio and Rosita, were the ones who founded the high fashion brand Missoni. However, Vittorio and his two siblings, in 1996, took control of Missoni, with Vittorio eventually rising to the rank of CEO. Moreover, in January 2013, a plane carrying Vittorio Missoni, along with his wife three others, disappeared off the coast of Venezuela, and in June 2013, the plane’s wreckage was located not far from where the aircraft departed, in the waters near the Los Roques island resort.

Early Life

Vittorio Missoni was born in Gallarate, Lomardy, Italy, in 1954. His parents are Ottavio and Rosita. In fact, just a year before he was born, his parents opened a knitwear store in Gallarate. Moreover, years after years, the business grew and evolved. However, during the 1950s, it was on its peak. Later on, in 1958, the first garments featuring the Missoni label appeared in stores.

In fact, Vittorio and his brother and sister, grew up in a social life that has style as well as privilege, they used to meet with well-known fashion legends and pose for pictures that ran in fashion and lifestyle magazines. Moreover, in the late 1960s, the Missonis relocated their company to Milan from Lombardy, and this relocation was one of the main reasons why northern Italy was elevated, and Milan in particular, as a world capitol of fashion.

Rabih Kayrouz: Fashion Designer

Rabih Kayrouz is a Lebanese fashion designer. He got his reputation first in Paris. Furthermore he is one of only two Lebanese fashion designers included in the official calendar of couture fashion shows in Paris. In other words, he is a young Lebanese designer wanted to do something international.

Rabih Kayrouz was born in Lebanon in 1973. At age 10 Rabih spent hours in front of the television watching fashion shows being broadcast from Paris.  Because of the civil war in his country he migrated to Paris. Kayrouz joined the Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne to finish his education.

Kayrouz in 1995 started several workshops of design houses Dior and Chanel. That what gave him a very good experience. He took his decision to return to Beirut his native country. Furthermore, he started to build his reputation and develop himself. So he began designing evening gowns and wedding dresses.

In 2008, Kayrouz returned to Paris to open his own design house (Maison Rabih Kayrouz). He became a correspondent member in Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne. Three years later he launched his ready-to-wear line. Furthermore, Kayrouz created a non-profit organization called the Starch Foundation in order to help young Lebanese designers to reach their aims.

Till now he continues to beat his own path, and see fashion follow. Furthermore, his name now alongside Chanel and Dior in the couture hall of fame.

His designs created in elegant special way. Kayrouz differentiates between couture and ready-to-wear. His ready-to-wear collections are complement with urban lifestyle and “know-how” style. While his haute- couture specializes in the style codes. In general he uses different techniques in his collections. He keeps the emotion and dreamy aspect of couture. Moreover, he creates for the pleasure of women creating clothes that can be either protective or seducing.

 

Giorgio Armani

Childhood & Early Life

Giorgio Armani was born on July 11, 1934 in the Italian town of Piacenza. His father was a shipping manager and he grew up in a humble background.

After high school, he enrolled in the Department of Medicine at the University of Milan, but left after three years to join the army in 1953.

Career

He found a job as a window dresser in a departmental store. After that, as a salesman in the menswear department, so he learned about fashion designing and marketing. He joined the Nino Cerutti company in the mid-1960’s as a designer for menswear. At the same time, he also sent his designs to various other garments manufacturers.

During the late 1960’s he met Sergio Galeotti, who inspired him to open his own office in 1973.
All through the early 1970’s, Armani freelanced for a number of better known fashion houses like Allegri, Hilton, Gibo, etc.
His success let him create his own label. Along with Galeotti, he formed the Giorgio Armani S.p.A in Milan in 1975. He presented a range of ready-to-wear collection for both men and women in1976.
In 1979, he founded the Giorgio Armani Corporation. He introduced several product lines under his Giorgio Armani brand: Le Collezioni, Underwear and Swimwear, and accessories.
In the 1980’s, the company introduced Armani Junior, Armani Jeans, and Emporio Armani lines.
Armani also developed a close relationship with Hollywood over time by designing costumes for over 100 films.

Major Works

His first biggest achievement was the founding of his company Giorgio Armani.
He opened the U.S branch, Giorgio Armani Corporation in New York.
He also found great success as a fashion designer for movie stars.

The Neiman Marcus Award in 1979.
The Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award from Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) in 1987.

Personal Life & Legacy

Armani was so busy with his career that he did not have time for women. He is very close to his siblings and their children.

Perry Edwin Ellis was born on March 3, 1940, and passed away on May 30, 1986. Moreover, in the mid-1970s, Perry created his sportswear house that was eponymous. Ellis influenced fashion industry to the extent that he was called “a huge turning point”. In fact, the reason he was called like that is because he introduced new patterns and proportions to the more traditional men’s clothing’s market.

Perry Ellis was known as an innovative fashion designer. Moreover, he was born on March 3, 1940, in Portsmouth, Virginia. When he was a teenager, he moved to New York, after working for a sports wear shop. In New York, Perry launched his own company, “Perry Ellis Sportswear” and his brand quickly became a popular. Unfortunately, he passed away on May 30, 1986, from complications associated with the AIDS virus.

In fact, even to these days, his designs are continuing to be a big part of the fashion world and landscape. In addition, his company is still working and producing outfits and fashion items.

Moreover, Perry Ellis, before he died, had a small family. He was in a relationship with a television writer and producer called Barbara Gallagher. In addition, the couple decided to have a baby together. In 1984, Tyler Alexandra Gallagher Ellis, their daughter was born. Unfortunately, she was born only 18 months before her father’s death.

In an interview, Tyler said “He was about work, and a perfectionist, and I feel like I know him” .

Pierre Cardin

Pierre Cardin is a French fashion designer who was born in Italy. Moreover, he was the first designer to introduce “bubble dress” in 1954. Furthermore, on October 16, 2009, Pierre Cardin was nominated Goodwill Ambassador of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations.

During his first years after he moved to Paris, Cardin jumped for job to job. Moreover, he found a job in “the Paquin fashion house” that belonged to the famous dress designer Jeanne Paquin. However, she died before Cardin’s time there. Cardin moved from Paquin to the Schiaperelli fashion house that same year.

Pierre is known for helping to design Dior’s “New Look,” which was intended to emphasize femininity in women’s clothing after the period of women taking on traditionally masculine roles during World War II.

In 190, after working for Dior, Pierre left to start his own line. He first started by designing outfits for stage productions, and after that, he immediately built a client base. Cardin says of his beginning, “I started with 20 people. I was successful immediately.” Moreover, in 1957, Pierre Cardin opened his first boutique in Paris for men, it was called “Adam”.

Born on May 2, 1955, in Reggio Calabria, Italy, designer Donatella Versace is one of best known names in fashion today. She is the sister of the late designer Gianni Versace. Donatella and Gianni learned about designing from their mother, who had a dressmaking business.

Versace began developing her trademark look as a teenager. Moreover, Donatella attended university in Florence for a time. However, she eventually reunited with Gianni to support his clothing business.

Gianni Versace started his own fashion company in Milan in 1978. Together with Donatella, who was right there by his side.  she played an important role in orchestrating many Versace fashion shows. She also helped bring some rock ‘n’ roll spirit and celebrity cache to the line through her friendships with Madonna and Elizabeth Hurley.

Also, she was chief designer for the company’s Versus line. She learned even more about the business in the mid-1990s. Gianni lost his life in 1997. Donatella was devastated by the death of her brother.

Days after Gianni Versace’s death, Donatella became Versace’s new creative director. In fact, she had already taken a leading role in the business.

In 2009, she brought in Christopher Kane to design for Versus and reinvent the brand. After his departure, Versace collaborated with other upcoming designers on the line. She also revamped the company’s haute couture line Atelier Versace. Today, Versace markets a variety of product lines from home goods, to perfume, clothing, and furniture. in addition to that, the company operates two hotels.\

Versace married former model Paul Beck in 1986. They had two children together, Allegra and Daniel.

After graduating from college, Johnson immediately made her first appearance in the New York fashion industry when she won Mademoiselle Magazine’s Guest Editor Contest and earned a job in the magazine’s department of art.

Moreover, in 1978, she partnered with an ex-model Chantal Bacon and started their own company and opened her first retail store in Manhattan. “Our partnership is better than a marriage,” Johnson said. ”We keep our private lives separate, but we’ve been through a lot together.
